About Me

My name is Rose Maddux.

I was born in Oregon and have spent almost all of my life here in Douglas County. It is a beautiful place to live. I am married and have three grown children, two of which are now married. I have a large extended family and we try to keep in touch with each other.

Hobbies: My hobbies are doing yard work, crocheting, making quilts, math, reading books, cooking, canning foods when I have time, and spending time with friends.

We have a cat named Sassy, who is getting very spoiled in the house and someday I would like to get a little dog, maybe a Shit-tzu.

I have almost always liked math, except in the 5th grade when I struggled to learn long division. I like to do puzzles and math is sort of like a puzzle to me. I think it is fun and very useful in every part of our lives. I want my students to learn to like and appreciate mathematics. I also want them to realize that they shouldn't be afraid of math. I would like them to find something about math that they can do and be good at and then possibly enjoy.

I like working with students. They are fun and challenging to be around. I always want to be learning new things and teaching is a good way to do that. I hope to help my students love the subject as much as I do, or at least learn to appreciate its value and know how to apply it in their lives when the need arises and it surely will.

Whitney's tree project

Problem of the day! December 6, 2006

Whitney put 4 packages of ornaments on her tree which cost $4.99 each, two packages of red flashing lights that cost two for five dollars, and two packages of tinsel which were 79 cents each. How much did it cost to decorate Whitney's tree?

Picture Gallery

This beautiful Sunflower is from the patio planter on our porch at the apartment. These flowers grew from some bird seed that my friend had put out for the birds.

The Christmas Tree Adventure

Problem of the Day!
My friend Whitney bought a Christmas tree yesterday. She got 30% off the regular price for the tree and the regular price was $19.95. After she bought the tree she dragged and carried it to her apartment which was about 9 blocks from the store where she purchased the tree.
1. If a city block is about 1/20 mile, how far did Whitney carry the tree?
2. How much did the tree actually cost Whitney after the discount?

Add this problem to your regular homework and you will receive an extra point on your grade.
